Greystoke Mahale

Operating as a private beachfront camp on Lake Tanganyika, this property features six open-fronted wood-and-thatch bandas, each with an upstairs chill-out deck and ensuite bathroom. Situated at the base of the Mahale Mountains, it sits within walking distance of a habituated chimpanzee group studied by Kyoto University. Morning trackers relay troop locations daily, guiding small-group expeditions into the forest. Beyond chimp trekking, guests may kayak, swim, fish, or hike to waterfalls. The camp uses solar power, supports local community projects, and sources food responsibly from nearby villages.
